inconsolable.

it was a wednesday night. my best friend and i were at a concert, my girlfriend came down to see me from the city of angels and he ran into the first boy that broke his heart. i hated him so i walked away to be civil. i really wanted to insult him. the concert was over and i walked my girlfriend to her car, we kissed, and she went off back to los angeles. i walked the two blocks back to the venue where my best friend waited for us to catch the train back to my house. we sat next to eachother and talked about what a wonderful show it had been. a few stops closer to home we were asked to get off the cart and go on to another one so we did. i spotted two empty seats together in front of a girl who sat alone. she was listening to her ipod oblivious to whatever was happening outside of her earphones. she was beautiful with short dirty blonde hair. she carried on her lap a yellow bag. my friend and i were laughing and being loud on the trolley, not being bothered by anything at that moment and i could feel this girl looking at me. i couldn't tell if with annoyance or curiosity, but she kept looking at me. i could sense her eyes on me and i became uneasy, nervous. i made eye contact with her a few times to let her know that i could tell she was looking at me, she smiled one of these times. that made me even more nervous. something was happening behind my friend and i and she rolled her eyes bothered by what was happening and laughed, so i laughed with her. the 35 minutes from downtown san diego to tijuana was full of awkward glances and nervous laughs. she was going the same way we were going. we had arrived at our stop and i said "hi" "que tengas una buena noche (have a good night)" she replied, and we went on our separate ways. the following morning, late to work, my best friend and i stood in line at the border for two hours. i crossed first and he was sent to secondary. i guess the united states don't trust mexicans with handlebar mustaches. i waited for him for 25 minutes. while i waited for him i see the same girl from the prior night and she waves at me like she's known me for years, almost like she knew she'd run into me, almost looking excited. i looked like shit and waved back and continued walking. i turned back and she was coming towards me fanning her face "que calor (so hot)", i agreed. we talked for a minute before her train arrived, i was waiting for my friend still. he finally appears and we get on the train, again sitting right across from her and i ask her her name and she asks for mine and we talk for a bit. she's 24. i get off on my stop and the rest is history.
